Rodriguez: I contacted Simeone to move to Atletico Madrid

Colombian playmaker James Rodriguez has admitted that he had contact with Argentine coach Diego Simeone in order to study a move to Atletico Madrid.

James Rodriguez gave a press interview with "ESPN" about his transfers, which he made during the last seasons before arriving at Everton, and his aspirations for next season.

James Rodriguez added in his statements: "I moved away from participating with Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid, which prompted me to ask to leave, and indeed I moved to Bayern Munich after the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti, taking advantage of the relationship I had with him."

Rodriguez continued, "Ancelotti did not last long, unfortunately, and Bayern Munich decided not to activate the purchase clause, so I returned to Real Madrid again, but my chances were over."

James continued: "Atletico Madrid expressed their interest in contracting me. Indeed, Simeone contacted me to convince me of my role in his project with Rojiblancos to move to his team."

And the Colombian playmaker concluded: “I wanted to move to Atletico Madrid because my chances there were great, but Florentino Perez refused because of the enmity between the two clubs.”
