In 10 points, learn about the completed projects in Cairo within two years


The government completed the implementation of 585 projects in Cairo Governorate during the years (18/2019 - 19/2020) at a total cost estimated at 35.3 billion pounds in 6 sectors: housing, electricity, transportation, irrigation, local development, and education. This is according to a statement by the Ministry of Planning.


The capital will regain much of its luster during the coming period, as a number of major projects are being planned within Cairo in the sectors of transportation, tourism, antiquities, services and facilities, in parallel with the great progress in the new cities and the administrative capital.


1 - Completing the implementation of 6 projects in the water resources and irrigation sector, at a cost of 81.5 million pounds.


2 - The completion of the implementation of 95 projects in the pre-university education sector, at a cost of 665 million pounds, which resulted in the establishment, replacement and expansion of 2,139 classrooms at all educational levels.


3 - Completion of the sewage improvement project on Al-Khalifa Al-Mamoun Street, a sewage plant (14, 16) and a water line in New Cairo, and sewage expansions in Helwan Al-Balad.


4 - Completion of the construction of the second steam station at the South Helwan power plant (capacity of 650 megawatts), the construction of the 180 km Zahraa Maadi / South Helwan line, the Manshiet Nasser transformer station (495 MW), and the expansion of the Sabtieh transformer station (added capacity). 125 MFA).


5- The completion of the implementation of 73 projects within the local development programs (electricity and lighting), at a cost of 186 million pounds, which resulted in the lighting of 1450 streets, the installation, replacement and renewal of about 23,000 columns, the laying of new cables with a length of 295 km, and the provision of 142,000 lighting equipment and tasks.


6- Completion of the first part of the fourth phase of the third metro line, and the duplication of the metro line (Al-Marj - Al-Marj Al-Jadida) and the middle ring road with a length of 22 km.


7- The completion of the implementation of 128 projects within the local development programs (paving roads, bridges and tunnels), at a cost of more than 2 billion pounds, which resulted in the paving of roads and internal streets with a length of 431 km, and the construction and development of 26 bridges.


8- The completion of the implementation of a number of projects to develop slums and dangerous and unsafe areas, including Al Asmarat 3 to provide 7440 housing units and remove danger from 7 areas, and Al Mahrousa (2,1), as well as the establishment of about 41 thousand social housing units in the cities of Badr and 15 May.


9- The completion of the implementation of 101 projects, within the local development programs (security, traffic and firefighting, strengthening the needs of local units), at a cost of 1.3 billion pounds, including the development and upgrading of 59 administrative buildings, and the connection of utilities to about 18.4 thousand housing units in Asmarat (3,2,1) ), 4776 Al-Mahrousa housing (2,1), finishing and connecting utilities to about 7,930 housing units in Badr City, and the construction of 198 housing units in Al-Nahda City, in addition to the establishment of a craft complex for car workshops on Ain Sukhna Road, and 2 street vendors’ markets.


10- The completion of the implementation of 24 projects within the local development programs (improving the environment), at a cost of 73 million pounds, which resulted in the completion of the development of the Al-Basateen and May 15 slaughterhouses, the supply of 1,390 equipment to develop 7 public parks, and the development of the Sohag market in Heliopolis.
