A case of "monkeypox" has been discovered in Texas, USA

The American Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the discovery of a case of monkeypox in the United States, according to Sky News.

The center said one citizen who traveled from Nigeria to Texas had a confirmed case of monkeypox.

The person took two flights on his way back to Texas: one from Nigeria to Atlanta and the other from Atlanta to Dallas.

The person has been hospitalized in Dallas, where officials are looking to contact those who may have come into close contact with him during the flights.

"Monkeypox is a rare but potentially serious viral disease that typically begins with influenza-like illness and swollen lymph nodes and progresses to a widespread rash on the face and body," the CDC said in its statement.

The strain of monkeypox that a person suffers from usually appears in Dallas, Nigeria and West Africa. The infection can last anywhere from two to four weeks, and is fatal in about 1 in 100 people.
