4 killed in Pakistani mine landslide

Four miners were killed in a landslide at a coal mine in Harnai district of Pakistan's Balochistan province, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported Saturday.

The agency quoted a mining inspector as saying that the mine was hit by a stream of mud while the workers were inside.

The official added that the rescue team arrived at the scene and retrieved the bodies from the mine.

The sparsely populated and poor province of Balochistan has huge reserves of coal, natural gas, copper and gold, much of which is being extracted with the help of China. Workers and security forces are often targeted by separatists in the region.
