Russia launches preparations for the World Conference on Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue in St. Petersburg, May 2022


The meeting of the Joint Working Group on Preparations for the World Conference on Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue was held at the headquarters of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly in Moscow, to be held in St. Petersburg from May 16-18, 2022. It was chaired by Konstantin Kosachev, Vice-President of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia.


The meeting was attended by: Ilyas Umakhanov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Science, Education and Culture of the Federation Council, Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Mikhail Belousov, Deputy Head of the Office of Internal Policy in the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, Ms. Olga Koroleva, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism And the national policy of the Government of the Russian Federation, Yevgeny Primakov, Chairman of the Russian International Cooperation Authority, representatives of a number of federal executive bodies and religious leaders.

 

The Muslims of Russia at the meeting of this working group were represented by Professor Damir Muhidinov, First Deputy Head of the Religious Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation, member of the Organizing Committee of the World Conference on Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue, named in accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, and Raul Seifdinov, Deputy Head of the Religious Administration Muslims of the Russian Federation for Internal Affairs.


During his speech, Prof. Damir Muhidinov indicated that the convening of this world conference coincides with the celebrations that will be organized in 2022 at the initiative of His Eminence Mufti Sheikh Rawi Ain El-Din, and with the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin, to celebrate the 1100th anniversary of the official adoption of Islam by the peoples of the Bulgars in the Volga Basin. Pointing to the possibility of broadcasting the great meanings embodied in the celebration of this occasion through the platform of the international conference to be held in May 2022. Professor Muhidinov stressed that the Bulgars in the Volga basin were the first country in Europe to accept Islam voluntarily. Thus, the tradition of coexistence between Islam and Christianity on the territory of the modern Russian Federation dates back more than a thousand years, saying: "We need to show the unique Russian experience, the experience of 1100 years of peaceful coexistence of Islam on the territory of the Russian Federation."


This interdependence between the concepts embodied in the holding of this international conference, which Professor Muhidinov referred to, was also reflected in the words of Mr. Konstantin Kosachev, Vice-President of the Federation Council, when he spoke about the Russian experience of interaction and cooperation between cultures and religions.According to Professor Damir Muhidinov, intends to The Religious Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation To play an active role in organizing the World Conference on Intercultural and Interreligious Dialogue in May 2022, taking into account the administration’s rich experience in holding a large number of international events in Russia and Europe, and in particular, with the blessing of His Eminence the Mufti Sheikh Rawi Eid al-Din The World Islamic Forum, whose activities are held in the countries of the Eurasian space, systematically participates in the process of Islamic and interreligious dialogue, and annually brings together representatives of the Islamic world and other religious traditions.
