The Arab Human Rights Committee condemns Israel's violations and calls on the world to take responsibility


The Arab Permanent Committee for Human Rights held today, Wednesday, an extraordinary session entitled "Protecting human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem," at the request of the State of Kuwait and the support of the member states.


An extensive discussion took place about the gross violations of human rights and the brutal Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in all the occupied territories, especially the assault on the Gaza Strip and on the lives, sanctities and property of the Palestinian people in Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Palestine, and the attempts to forcibly displace them from it, specifically in the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan and the rest The neighborhoods of the city, and the brutal attacks on worshipers in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, which took place in recent days by Israel, the occupying power towards the Palestinian people, and the failure to fulfill its international obligations under international humanitarian law and international human rights law.


The meeting praised the steadfastness and steadfastness of the Palestinian people, while they held Israel, as the occupying Power, fully responsible for these crimes, and that this deliberate Israeli military aggression against defenseless civilians constitutes a war crime and a crime against humanity, and comes in the context of its long-term occupation and its absolute contempt for international law. And their impunity and accountability, and they expressed their refusal to exclude Israel from the rule of law for decades by the international community, despite the seriousness of its violations, which led to this situation outside the law.


The meeting warned of the great repercussions of the attacks, as it is a flagrant provocation to the feelings of the faithful everywhere and threatens to ignite a cycle of violence threatening security and stability in the region and the world.


The meeting also condemned the practices of the occupation authorities that undermine the freedom of worship in Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city of Jerusalem, including the attack on unarmed Christian worshipers in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher during their religious ceremonies, in addition to the barbaric bombing that deliberately targeted millions in the Gaza Strip and the use of excessive force against them, which led To the killing and wounding of a large number of children and innocent civilians.


The meeting called on the international community to take urgent action at all levels to prevent the repeated Israeli occupation of the lives of Palestinian civilians, and to work to stop this aggression and prevent its recurrence.


The attendees supported the request of the State of Palestine from the International Criminal Court and other institutions to proceed with the investigation and documentation of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel against the defenseless Palestinian people, including the displacement of Palestinians from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, and the rest of the occupied Palestinian areas and neighborhoods, and the court's call to Provide all material and human resources for this investigation and give it the necessary priority.


The Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights called on the international community and its institutions to shoulder its moral and legal responsibility in addressing systematic and widespread violations and policies by the Israeli occupation forces to change the character and position of the demographic composition of the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, and distort its Arab, Islamic and Christian identity.


She called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and his Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, to stand up to their responsibilities in accordance with the mandate granted to them and their obligations towards the protection of children in armed conflicts, to include the Israeli army and occupation forces and settlers in the list of entities that commit grave violations that affect the rights of children in situations of armed conflict, and in accordance with With the goals of humanity, peace and justice.


It called on the international community and all its concerned institutions, especially the Human Rights Council and its special mechanisms, each according to its mandate, to take the necessary measures to protect and prevent the displacement of the people of Sheikh Jarrah in the city of Jerusalem who are threatened with forced eviction from and seizure of their homes, and to emphasize that the forced displacement of the residents of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood from their homes It will constitute a war crime and a crime against humanity, and that Al-Quds people are protected residents according to international law, and that the occupation authorities and its courts have no authority over them under Security Council Resolution No. 478 of 1980, and to intervene to confront the denial of Muslim and Christian worshipers in the city of Jerusalem to access religious sites and suppress them inside Al-Aqsa Mosque and deliberately provoke their feelings And the profanation of their sanctities in an organized and systematic way.


The committee also stressed the need for states parties to the Geneva Convention to respect their obligations under international humanitarian law, and to compel Israel, the occupying Power, to comply with the Geneva Conventions in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.


It urged the International Committee of the Red Cross and all relevant organizations to work to facilitate the arrival of relief aid to the Gaza Strip, including treatment materials and the transport of the injured.
