Mendes told the Portuguese newspaper "Record", saying: "Cristiano is proud of the title that Sporting has won this season, as he has shown publicly, but his career plans at the present time do not pass through Portugal."

Maria Dolores, the mother of Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo, had confirmed that she would try to persuade her son to move to the Portuguese Sporting Lisbon team.

"I will talk to him and try to convince him to return next season, to the Jose Alvalade stadium and to wear the colors of Sporting Lisbon," said Maria Dolores, in a statement on the Portuguese channel TVI 24.

Juventus, two rounds before the end of the season, are ranked fifth, with 72 points, and their rivals need to falter in order to snatch a seat in the Champions League next season.
