America and Italy affirm the necessity of the full implementation of the ceasefire in Libya

During a meeting in Washington, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio discussed the importance of fully implementing the ceasefire in Libya and the political unity in the country.

In a statement published by the ministry on its website on Tuesday, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that the two ministers affirmed their support for the efforts of the Libyan people to restore unity, hold national elections next December, and fully implement the ceasefire agreement.

Price added that Blinken and de Mayo renewed their firm support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and discussed the need for Russia to end its dangerous military buildup in Crimea and along the borders of Ukraine, as he put it.

The two sides reaffirmed the common commitment to human rights and the lasting bonds of friendship and affection between the Italian and American peoples.

The meeting between the US Secretary of State and his Italian counterpart in Washington comes within the framework of celebrating 160 years of diplomatic relations between the United States and Italy.
